Ohio Powerlifting has changed and evolved and the sport has evolved with it. Early on there were few federations for lifters to choose from. The AAU and USPF were two of the early powerlifting feds that offered a competitive environment for lifters to test their metal. These feds required squats to be walked out, definitive pauses in the bench press, and very limited gear. The USPF was very popular and saw most of the top lifters in the nation and in

Ohio Powerlifting competing at its meets in the 80’s and early nineties. With the advancements in supportive gear, other federations like the APF sprang up to accommodate those lifters who wanted less restriction in that area and multiply lifting was born. Squats could now be taken out of a monolift, so walking out the squats would no longer interfere with moving maximum weight. As gear continued to become more advanced, Unlimited feds like the WPO came into existence, and many of the all time total and benchpress numbers sky rocketed. The APF and WPO found their greatest success during the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

Today there has been a titanic fracturing of power in the sport. There are multiple raw feds now, single ply feds- some old, some newer, and many multi-ply feds to choose from. Many view this as a good thing because now lifters have a choice- there is literally a federation in Ohio Powerlifting for every distinction that can be made. What ply’s are allowed, drug tested or not, competition rules, international affiliation. It’s all there now. The only problem is that now there are 50 different world records under different conditions and the sport has become completely diluted with mediocrity…but hey, who doesn’t want to be a National Champion. RISE UP.

Ohio Powerlifting is a growing sport and is increasing in size every year. This means that records will be broken and new champions will arise. If you set a major state record or you know someone who has please let us know so we can add it to this page. Violent Hero Powerlifting is committed to providing accurate information regarding Ohio Powerlifting federations, gyms, and resources.
